Glovelier was a municipality in the district Delémont the canton of Jura in Switzerland. The former German name Lietingen is no longer used today. On January 1, 2013, it merged with the municipalities of Lower Court, Courfaivre, Soulce and Undervelier the new community Haute- Sorne.

Geography

Glovelier is located on 515 m above sea level. M., 12 km west-southwest from the cantonal capital Delémont ( straight line ). The former street village lines extending in the lowlands of the river Tabeillon, in the extreme west of the Dels Berger basin, a broad valley in the Jura folds.

The area of ​​14.4 km ² large municipality area includes a portion of the intensively farmed level of Dels Berger basin. In the West, the municipal area extends over the Jura ridge of Mont Russelin (up to 911 m above sea level. M. ) that separates the Doubs Valley from Delémont, and the south-western part is occupied by the deep valley of the Tabeillon. This drains the area east to Sorne, a left tributary of the Birs. To the south, the municipality extends to the chain of Saulcy and has here with 1'020 m above sea level. M. its highest point. From the municipality surface 1997 8 % were settlements, 49 % of forest and woody plants and 43% to agriculture.

To Glovelier include the hamlet Sceut, the 870 m above sea level. M. is on the northern side of the valley of the Tabeillon and forms its own community of citizens, as well as several individual farms. Neighboring communities of Glovelier are Boécourt, Lower Court, Undervelier, Saulcy, Saint- Brais and Clos du Doubs.

Population

With 1193 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Glovelier belongs to the medium-sized municipalities in the canton of Jura. Of the 92.1 % inhabitants are French-speaking, German-speaking 2.2 % and 1.8 % Italian-speaking (as of 2000). The population of Glovelier amounted in 1850 to 537 residents in 1900 to 634 inhabitants. During the 20th century, the population grew slowly but steadily. Increased growth rates observed since 1990 (990 inhabitants).

Economy

Glovelier developed at the end of the 19th century from a farming village to an industrial community. Jobs are available in the watch industry ( manufacturing of watch cases ) and in a large sawmill. Thanks to good transport links to the north of the village was a commercial zone.

Traffic

The community is conveniently moderately well developed. It lies on the main road from Delémont to La Chaux -de-Fonds and has its own connection to the 1998, this section of the A16 motorway from Delsberg to Pruntrut to be connected by 2015 both to the Swiss national road network as well as to the French motorway network. History

Excavations have found pottery from the Late Bronze Age, indicating that the municipality has been inhabited since around 1000 BC. Furthermore, there were finds of Roman coins to an offense committed during the Roman period street.

First mention is Glovelier 1139 as Lolenviler in a document by Pope Innocent II as one of the 13 villages of the free reign Delsberg came Glovelier 1271 to Prince-Bishopric of Basel. Between 1793 and 1815 it belonged to France and was initially part of the Département du Mont- Terrible, associated from 1800 with the Department of Haut -Rhin. By the decision of the Congress of Vienna, the place came in 1815 to the canton of Bern and on 1 January 1979 at the newly founded Canton Jura.

Attractions

In the village center a few houses from the 17th to 19th centuries have been preserved. The former school was built in the classical style of the 19th century. In the upper part of the village is the church of Saint- Maurice, which was built in 1923-24.
