Dala Line

The railway Mora beach - Uppsala is a single-track, 265 -kilometer-long, standard gauge and electrified railway line in Sweden. It runs from Mora to Uppsala, crossing Dalarna County, Uppsala County and Västmanland County.

Since the naming by Banverket in 1990, the route is designated as Dalabanan. This is an art term that was coined long after the construction of individual track pieces under other names. Reason for the appointment was, among other things, the transport service with through trains on this route sections.

History

Today Dalabanan called route was originally built by various private railway companies and Statens Järnvägar. The detailed story of the sections can be found in the articles. So is:

  • The stretch Morastrand - Mora part Inlandsbanan
  • The stretch Mora - Utby part, built by Falun Rättvik Mora Järnvägsaktiebolag railway Orsa Falun,
  • The stretch Utby - Borlänge part, built by Siljans Järnvägsaktiebolag and Södra Dalarnes Järnvägsaktiebolag ( SDJ) extended railway line Rättvik Borlänge,
  • The stretch Borlänge Avesta Krylbo part of Södra Dalarnes Järnväg,
  • The stretch Avesta Krylbo Uppsala part of the original Norra stambanan.

Traffic

The passenger traffic on the route is used by SJ AB ( SJ) and operated since June 2006 Tågkompaniet on behalf of Tåg i Bergslagen. The contract with Tåg i Bergslagen runs until 2016. Tågkompaniet moves to the section Mora - Borlänge, SJ, the total distance.

From SJ new Regina Intercity ( X55 ) are used, which are marketed as SJ 3000.

With the timetable change on December 9, 2012, the previously operated by SJ Regional traffic on the stretch Uppsala Sala Upplands Lokaltrafik was taken. Since then run on weekdays and weekends twelve six - Upptåget pairs of trains with intermediate stop in Morgongåva and Heby.

Future

Investigations of Trafikverket provided that the sections Uppsala Sala and Sala - Borlänge can be improved with new or restored train stations. Have also proposed changes in the radii of curvature and some shorter Neutrassierungen not feasible or affordable but at close range.

The feasibility study on the route should examine shorter travel times and possibilities of a compressed train operation. Between Uppsala and Sala this can be done by passing tracks at stations Klista, Åland, Vittinge and Heby. Between Sala and Borlänge the tracks could be extended in the existing Überholbahnhöfen, so that in the ordinary operation can pass the trains that encounter each other without stopping. These measures could be implemented in the short term.

To increase the speed, the turning radius should be increased and shorter Neutrassierungen be made. South of Hedemora should a stretch be expanded to double track. These measures require further investigation, also in terms of profitability.

Trafikverket decided to conduct feasibility studies on the proposals. In the next four to five years, the measures in the regional plan and the national plan for the planning and priority setting should be included. Another planning or financing option, there is not currently.
