Daniel Blackburn ( born May 20, 1983 in Montreal, Quebec ) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender. During his career he played for the New York Rangers in the National Hockey League.

Career

Dan Blackburn was NHL Entry Draft, selected in 2001 by the New York Rangers in the first round in the tenth place (1st round, 10th overall). He was also the same in the 2001/ 02 season for use as back-up goalie behind Mike Richter and completed 31 games. He was elected team in the NHL All- Rookie for its good performance. The following season he was number 2 in the Rangers behind Mike Dunham.

The ensuing season was not particularly positive. Due to a shoulder injury Blackburn missed the entire season 2003/04. The next year he was out of the NHL for use as the season was canceled because of the lockout. In the time he played in the ECHL with the Victoria Salmon Kings.

One month before the start of the NHL season 2005/06 presented the lengthy shoulder injury that plagued him even worse than when she was actually already out. Dan Blackburn suffered nerve damage in his left shoulder. On 25 September 2005 Dan Blackburn had to end his promising career at the age of just 22 years.

After the end of his career, Blackburn has been manager of the Goaltender Development Institute, which advocates for the promotion and formation of ice hockey goalkeepers.

  • Blackburn is the fifth- youngest goalie to ever in the history of the NHL came into use (18 years and 143 days), and the third youngest, who was able to celebrate a victory (18 years and 148 days)
  • Blackburn finished his career in September 2005 at the age of 22 years, but his last game in the NHL he was already on 5 April 2003 at the age of 19 years
