David Williams (ice hockey)

David A. Williams ( born August 25, 1967 in Plainfield, New Jersey ) is a retired American professional ice hockey player. During his career he played for the San Jose Sharks and Mighty Ducks of Anaheim in the National Hockey League.

Career

Williams first played from 1981 to 1985 at the high school before he studied from 1985 to 1989 at Dartmouth College and at the same time aground for the university team in the National Collegiate Athletic Association. After he had been selected for the completion of high school in the NHL Entry Draft in 1985 in the twelfth round at 234 instead of the New Jersey Devils, he moved to season 1990/91 to the professional.

Since it was the Devils have failed to bring their draft pick to contract signature, the defender playing time initially spent in the East Coast Hockey League at the Knoxville Cherokees and in the International Hockey League with the Muskegon Lumberjacks. In the summer of 1991, the newly established San Jose Sharks undertook the free agent, who had previously participated more with the U.S. national team at the World Ice Hockey Championships in 1991. Besides a few games for the Kansas City Blades in the IHL, Williams was in the seasons 1991/92 and 1992/ 93 for the Sharks NHL squad and took part in the 1992 World Cup again. Through the NHL Expansion Draft 1993 Williams joined the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, but where he played in the next two years as the farm team in the IHL and the NHL team. After the end of his contract he signed in August 1995 as a free agent a one-year contract with the Hartford Whalers, but put him exclusively in the IHL with the Detroit Vipers. The Americans went in the following summer to the St. Louis Blues. There, however, he came in two seasons also only inserts in the International and American Hockey League. After the 1997/98 season, he finished his career.
