Demond Mallet
Demond Mallet ( born February 22, 1978 in Leesville, Louisiana ) is an American professional basketball player. The agile guard with a good accuracy from the three- point line is a third cousin of the famous former basketball player Shaquille O'Neal. From 2001 to 2007 Mallet played in the German Basketball Bundesliga and one was German champion and cup winner. After Mallet for the Artland Dragons in Germany again played in the National Basketball League in 2012/13, he returned and then back to Belgium for Spirou Charleroi BC, where he had already played for two seasons.
Career
After his studies in Lake Charles in his native U.S. state on the McNeese State University, for their cowboys, he was active in the Southland Conference NCAA Division I, signed Mallet 2001 a professional contract in Germany at BS / ENERGY Braunschweig in the BBL. After three seasons, he moved to the runner-up from Bamberg, with whom in 2005 he immediately won the first German Championship. In the following season, Mallet could do at a European level a name by the performances of Bamberg in the Euro League. At the end of the 2005/06 season, he suffered a second time a torn ACL, an injury that had befallen him in 2003 in Braunschweig. For the following season he was taken off the defending champion Rhein Energie Cologne under contract, so he could play another season in the Euro League. Although the championship that season won his former club in Bamberg, but Mallet was able to win with the Cologne the trophy.
In 2007 he signed a contract in Catalan Badalona, with whom he also won the national cup and at international level together with the German international Jan Jagla the ULEB Cup. After another season in Badalona, where you failed in the Euro League in the first round just outside the German representatives Alba Berlin, Mallet left next to Ricky Rubio and Jan Jagla 2009 the club. The following season he played at Türk Telekomspor from Ankara.
In 2010, he transferred to the Belgian champions from Charleroi. With Spirou BC he could reach twice a qualification round, the main round of the highest European club competition ULEB Euro League, which was a Belgian club team before nearly a decade of not more successful. In the qualifying competition in each case the second German representatives Alba Berlin was defeated. In the first group phase was then for the new Belgian champion in 2011 respectively terminus in this competition. At the turn of 2011/12, Mallet joined the Israeli giants Maccabi Tel Aviv, with Spirou secured an option to return to its end of the contract at Maccabi. Following the departure of the Israeli Association in the quarter-final play-offs Euro League solved this also the contract with Mallet and this returned to Spirou. In the subsequent Belgian Championship play-offs but you missed in the fifth and decisive final game against Telenet Oostende after a defeat in the extension of a renewed championship success.
In the National Basketball League 2012/13 Mallet played with the Dragons from Artland again in Germany, but could not connect to earlier successes. After a fourth place in the trophy competition Beko BBL Cup 2013 is different than sixth in the main round without a win in the first play-off round for the championship against the former runner- ratiopharm Ulm. Then Mallet returned to Spirou Charleroi BC.
