Derry City Council

Derry (Irish Doire ) is one of Northern Ireland's 26 District and is in the traditional county of Londonderry. The district was formed in 1973 from the County Borough Londonderry, which included the actual city of Derry or Londonderry and the Rural District Londonderry, which included linking the rural hinterland. In addition to the city of Derry are today among other places Culmore, Newbuildings, Strathfoyle and Eglinton in the District.

The district formed in 1973 was first called Londonderry, was founded in 1984 but officially renamed in Derry. Since the actual city of Derry has the status of a city, the managing authority of the entire district is called Derry City Council.
