Dick Durbin

Richard Joseph "Dick" Durbin ( born November 21, 1944 in East St. Louis) is a Democratic American politician. He is currently a Senior Senator for the State of Illinois and Group Vice- Chairman ( Democratic Whip ) in the U.S. Senate.

Early life

1962 Made Durbin at the Roman Catholic Assumption High School in East St. Louis ( Illinois) graduated from high school. He then studied at Georgetown University, where he in 1966 his undergraduate degrees earned. During the last year of his studies he did an internship in the Illinois Senators Paul Howard Douglas office. Then he studied - also at Georgetown University - Law and completed his studies in 1969 in the same year, when he was granted admission to the bar. In the 70 years was Durbin Legal Adviser to the Deputy Governor of Illinois, later U.S. Senator Paul M. Simon. Durbin was elected in 1982 in the U.S. House of Representatives, which he held until 1997, the year of his election to the Senate, was a member.

As chairman of the delegation from Illinois in the U.S. House of Representatives, Durbin was chosen as a candidate of the Democratic Party to take up the sequel to the 1996 incumbent Senator Paul Simon, Durbin has considered a mentor. The Senate election in November 1996, he won, just as his re- election in 2002 and 2008.

Durbin sits amongst the powerful investment committee. Within the senators he is rather situates the left, as far as his voting behavior. He is involved in the regulation of asbestos and for the environment, including in particular the protection of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. Along with Senators Patrick Leahy and Charles Schumer, he is known for his work when interviewing candidates for judgeships in the Legal Affairs Committee. He is also committed to prevent the closure of military bases in Illinois.
