Mark Kirk

Mark Steven Kirk ( born September 15, 1959 in Champaign, Illinois) is an American politician.

Life

After leaving school at New Trier East High School Kirk studied history at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México and then at Cornell University. This was followed by a degree in economics and law at the London School of Economics and at the Georgetown University Law Center. After his studies he worked from 1989 as an intelligence officer in the Naval Reserve operates. Kirk is a member of the Republican Party. From 2001 to 2010 he was a member of the House of Representatives of the United States for the state of Illinois.

Kirk won 2 November 2010 at the Senate elections, the election for the unexpired term of his predecessor, Roland Burris, and for a full term as of January 2011. On 29 November 2010 he was sworn in as Burris ' successor.

2001 Kirk married his colleague Kimberly Vertolli, of which he was divorced in 2009. He belongs to the United Church of Christ and lives privately in Highland Park.

In the current 113th Senate is Kirk owner of the Candy desk.

In January 2012, Kirk had to undergo surgery after he had suffered an ischemic stroke. The doctors told after the surgery that he may have his left arm as a result of the stroke would no longer fully able to move. On January 3, 2013, he returned to Congress.
