Burnett M. Chiperfield

Burnett Chiperfield Mitchell ( born June 14, 1870 in Dover, Bureau County, Illinois, † June 24, 1940 in Canton, Illinois ) was an American politician. Between 1915 and 1917, and again from 1930 to 1933, he represented the state of Illinois in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Burnett Chiperfield attended the public schools of his home and the Hamline University in Saint Paul ( Minnesota). After a subsequent law degree in 1891 and its recent approval as a lawyer, he began to work in this profession. For 20 years he was also a member of the National Guard of Illinois, and he participated in the Spanish-American War of 1898 in part. Besides his work as a lawyer Chiperfield also worked in the banking industry. Between 1896 and 1900 he was a prosecutor in Fulton County. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Republican Party launched a political career. From 1903 to 1913 he sat as an MP in the House of Representatives from Illinois. In 1912, he ran unsuccessfully for Congress yet.

In the congressional elections of 1914 was Chiperfield but then in the 26th electoral district of Illinois in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Lawrence B. Stringer on March 4, 1915. In 1916, he opted not to run again. Instead, he applied unsuccessfully for a seat in the U.S. Senate. In the years 1920 and 1936 Chiperfield was a delegate to the Republican National Conventions relevant. After the death of Mr Edward John King, he was elected the due election for the 15th seat from Illinois as his successor in the U.S. House of Representatives, where he took up his new mandate on 4 November 1930. Since he was elected at the same time for the next legislative session, he could remain until March 3, 1933 Congress.

In 1932 he was not re-elected. Two years later, he strove equally unsuccessful in his return to the Congress. He died on June 24, 1940 in Canton, where he was also buried. His son Robert (1899-1971) was also a congressman for Illinois.
