Elmer J. Hoffman

Elmer Joseph Hoffman (* July 7, 1899 in Wheaton, Illinois, † June 25, 1976 ) was an American politician. Between 1959 and 1965 he represented the state of Illinois in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Elmer Hoffman attended the public schools of his home. During the First World War, he served in an artillery unit in the U.S. Army. He was employed in France. After that, he helped his father in the management of the farm. At the same time he ran his own truck forwarding company 1919-1930. From 1930 to 1938 he worked for the police in DuPage County. From 1939 to 1950 he was there as Chief of Police (Sheriff ), in the meantime also worked as deputy chief of police. In 1951 he worked in the administration of the estate court in DuPage County. From 1952 to 1959 he was Minister of Finance of Illinois. Politically, he was a member of the Republican Party.

In the congressional elections of 1958, Hoffman was in the 14th electoral district of Illinois in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he succeeded the late Russell W. Keeney meantime, on 3 January 1959. After two re- election he was able to complete in Congress until January 3, 1965 three legislative periods. These were shaped by the events of the civil rights movement and the beginning of the Vietnam War. In 1964 he gave up another candidacy.

After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives Elmer Hoffman is no longer politically have appeared. He died on 25 June 1976 in Wheaton, where he was also buried.
