Everett J. Murphy

Everett Jerome Murphy ( born July 24, 1852 in Nashville, Illinois, † April 10, 1922 in Joliet, Illinois ) was an American politician. Between 1895 and 1897 he represented the state of Illinois in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Even in his youth moved Everett Murphy with his parents to Sparta, where he attended the public schools. In 1877 he worked as City Clerk for the local municipality. Then he moved to Chester, where he was employed at the court administration. At times, he was also sheriff in Randolph County. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Republican Party launched a political career. Between 1886 and 1888 was Murphy MP in the House of Representatives from Illinois. He then headed to prison in Menard. Since 1892, he lived in East St. Louis.

In the congressional elections of 1894 Murphy was in the 21st electoral district of Illinois in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of John C. Black on March 4, 1895. Since he has not been confirmed in 1896, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until March 3, 1897. From 1897 to 1899 Murphy was a member of the parole board of his state. Between 1899 and 1913, and then from 1917 until his death he was head of the penitentiary in Joliet. He also went into the banking industry. Everett Murphy died on April 10, 1922 in Joliet.
