Alexander Campbell (Illinois politician)

Alexander Campbell ( born October 4, 1814 Franklin County, Pennsylvania, † August 8, 1898 in La Salle, Illinois ) was an American politician.

Campbell moved in 1850 to La Salle in Illinois. 1852 and 1853 he was mayor of that city. In the years 1858 and 1859 he sat as an MP in the House of Representatives from Illinois.

Campbell was elected as an Independent in the 44th Congress and represented the state of Illinois there March 4, 1875 to March 3, 1877 U.S. House of Representatives. In the elections of 1876, he could not defend his seat. After his political career, he retired from public life. He died in 1898 in La Salle and was buried in the Oakwood Cemetery.
