Jonathan H. Rowell

Jonathan Harvey Rowell ( born February 10, 1833 in Haverhill, New Hampshire, † May 15, 1908 in Bloomington, Illinois ) was an American politician. Between 1883 and 1891 he represented the state of Illinois in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Jonathan Rowell visited the Rock Creek School and the Eureka College in Illinois. During the Civil War he was an officer in an infantry company from Illinois, which belonged to the army of the Union. After a subsequent law degree in 1866 and its recent approval as a lawyer, he started in Bloomington to work in this profession. Between 1868 and 1872 he was a prosecutor in the eighth judicial district of Illinois. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Republican Party launched a political career.

In the congressional elections of 1882, Rowell was in the 14th electoral district of Illinois in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Joseph Gurney Cannon on March 4, 1883. After three re- elections, he was able to complete in Congress until March 3, 1891 four legislative sessions. Since 1889 he directed the Election Committee. In 1890 he was not re-elected. After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives Jonathan Rowell again practiced as a lawyer. He died on 15 May 1908 in Bloomington, where he was also buried.
