George E. Adams

George Everett Adams ( born June 18, 1840 in Keene, New Hampshire; † October 5, 1917 in Peterborough, New Hampshire ) was an American politician. Between 1883 and 1891 he represented the state of Illinois in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

In 1853, George Adams came with his parents to Chicago in Illinois. Later he attended the Phillips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire. This was followed up in 1860 to study at Harvard University. During the Civil War he served in an artillery unit from Illinois, which belonged to the army of the Union. After studying law at Harvard and his 1865 was admitted as a lawyer in Chicago, he began to work in this profession. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Republican Party launched a political career. Between 1880 and 1883 he was a member of the Illinois Senate.

In the congressional elections of 1882 Adams was the fourth electoral district of Illinois in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of John C. Sherwin on March 4, 1883. After three re- elections, he was able to complete in Congress until March 3, 1891 four legislative sessions. In 1890 he was not re-elected. After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives George Adams practiced again as a lawyer in Chicago. He died on 5 October 1917 in Peterborough.
