Abner Taylor

Abner Taylor ( born January 19, 1829 in Bangor, Maine, † April 13, 1903 in Washington DC ) was an American politician. Between 1889 and 1893 he represented the state of Illinois in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

In 1832, Abner Taylor moved with his parents in the Champaign County, Ohio. About Iowa he came to Chicago in 1860. He worked in construction and operation before his time in Chicago is also a shop. During the Civil War he served as a colonel in Tennessee in the administration of seized material of the Confederacy. After the war, Taylor returned to Chicago, where he became a successful businessman. He operated several stores and was also active in the real estate industry as well as continue in construction. In this capacity he was involved in the reconstruction of the city of Chicago after the great fire in 1871. Taylor was also active in other cities in the United States. So he built the Texas State Capitol in Austin. Moreover, he built roads and even some railway lines.

Politically, he was a member of the Republican Party. Between 1884 and 1886 he sat in the House of Representatives from Illinois; in June 1884 he was a delegate to the Republican National Convention in Chicago. In the congressional elections of 1888 Taylor was elected in the first district of Illinois in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington, where he became the successor of Ransom W. Dunham on March 4, 1889. After a re-election he was able to complete in Congress until March 3, 1893 two legislative sessions.

In 1892, Abner Taylor gave up another candidacy. After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives, he took his previous activities on again. He died on 13 April 1903 in the German capital Washington.
