Niels Juul

Niels Juul (* April 27, 1859 in Randers, Denmark, † December 4, 1929 in Chicago, Illinois ) was an American politician. Between 1917 and 1921 he represented the state of Illinois in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Niels Juul attended the public schools of his native Denmark. In 1880 he came to Chicago, where he was active in publishing. After a subsequent law degree in 1899 and its recent approval as a lawyer in Chicago, he began to work in this profession. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Republican Party launched a political career. Between 1898 and 1914 he was a member of the Illinois Senate. From 1907 to 1911 he was deputy prosecutor.

In the congressional elections of 1916, Juul was in the seventh election district of Illinois in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he succeeded the Democrats Frank Buchanan on March 4, 1917. After a re-election he was able to complete in Congress until March 3, 1921 two legislative sessions. During his time in Congress, the First World War fell. Also, were ratified in 1919 and 1920, the 18th and the 19th Amendment. In 1920, he was not nominated by his party for re-election.

In the years 1921 and 1922 Niels Juul was head of the customs authority at the port of Chicago. He then practiced as a lawyer again. He died on December 4, 1929 in Chicago.
