Thomas J. Selby

Thomas Jefferson Selby ( born December 4, 1840 Delaware County, Ohio, † March 10, 1917 in Hardin, Illinois ) was an American politician. Between 1901 and 1903 he represented the state of Illinois in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Thomas Selby attended the public schools of his home. In the years 1864-1866 he was sheriff in Jersey County, Illinois. Then he gave 1866-1870 out the newspaper Jersey County Democrat. From 1869 to 1877 he was employed as a county clerk in the county administration. After a subsequent law degree in 1869 and its recent approval as a lawyer, he began in 1875 to work in this profession. At the same beat Selby as a member of the Democratic Party a political career one. Twice he was elected mayor of Jerseyville. From 1888 to 1900 he was a prosecutor in Calhoun County.

In the congressional elections of 1900, Selby was in the 16th electoral district of Illinois in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of William E. Williams on March 4, 1901. Until March 3, 1903, he was able to complete a term in Congress. After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives Selby again practiced as a lawyer. At times, he was again working as a prosecutor. He died on March 10, 1917 in Hardin, where he was also buried.
