Dmitry Tursunov

Dmitry Tursunov Igorewitsch (Russian: Дмитрий Игоревич Турсунов; born December 12, 1982 in Moscow ) is a Russian tennis player.

Career

Tursunov left his native city of Moscow at the age of 12 years to train at the Gorin Tennis Academy in Sacramento, California. His father Igor, a former engineer, urged his son to be tennis players. This led to conflicts and several attempts by Dmitri from home to run away. His first time in the United States was difficult. Tursunov had little fun at the tennis, because he coached there for his father and not for himself. Three days after his victory at the ATP tournament in 's- Hertogenbosch in 2011 died Tursunows father to pancreatic cancer. In an interview dated August 2011 Tursunov said that he now understands the motives of his father and is grateful to him that he wanted to achieve the best for his son with his means.

The Forehand Tursunov right-handed, two-handed backhand. His highest world ranking position he reached in a single on 2 October 2006 with position 20 and position 36 with a double on 16 June 2008.

From 1 to 3 December 2006, he played with the Russian team in Moscow to the Davis Cup and contributed with a win over Andy Roddick to the fact that the Russian team reached the final and eventually won the Davis Cup in 2006. The match against Roddick took 4 hours and 48 minutes and went with 6:3, 6:4, 5:7, 3:6, 17:15 to Tursunov. In 2007 he won the Hopman Cup along with Nadia Petrova against Spain.
