Dovre Line

The Dovrebahn is a railway line from Oslo to Trondheim in Norway.

General

While originally the track was described by Dombås after Støren as Dovrebanen, this name is now for the entire route from Oslo to Trondheim. The section of line from Trondheim to Støren is also a section of the Rørosbane.

The route generally follows as the European Route 6 the old traffic flows from Oslo in the area of Trondheim.

History

The track was built over the course of 70 years. The years since the opening of the sections:

In 1970 the line was electrified.

The sections

Oslo - Lillehammer

The section of Oslo - Eidsvoll was the first railway line in Norway. It was built by the father of the railways George Stephenson. The construction of the new airport at Gardermoen was, in part, parallel to the existing alignment, a new track built, which is the first high- speed line to Gardermoen in Norway.

The journey to Eidsvoll, where the first Norwegian Constitution was adopted, is approximately one hour. Shortly afterwards you reach the Mjøsa Lake, the largest lake in Norway, at Minnesund.

Continue through Hamar, Brumunddal and Moelv to Lillehammer, the city of the Winter Olympics in 1994.

Lillehammer - Dombås

After Lillehammer Dovrebahn passes through the Gudbrandsdal Valley. In the Gudbrandsdal Valley is Hunderfossen and the Norwegian Public Roads Museum. Continue to follow the places Tretten, Fåvang, Ringebu and Otta.

Dombås - Trondheim

From Dombås it goes into the mountains. In order to overcome a height difference of 293 m, a tunnel turn is traversed. Continue through the Fokstumyra, a national park. Places, which are traversed, are Oppdal, Støren and Berkåk.

After 6 ½ hours, the city of Trondheim is achieved. From here trains continue to Bodø and Östersund in Sweden. In addition, there is a transition to the Hurtigruten ships.
