Draßmarkt (Hungarian: Vámosderecske, 1899: Sopronderecske, Croatian: Racindrof ) is a market town in the district Oberpullendorf in Burgenland in Austria with 1391 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013).

Geography

The municipality is located in Central Burgenland. Parts of the municipality is part of the Natural Park Landseer mountains.

The municipality comprises the cadastral Draßmarkt, Karl and Oberrabnitz.

History

Before Christ's birth, the area was part of the Celtic kingdom of Noricum and belonged to the area of the Celtic hillfort castle on the Schwarzenbacher Castle Hill.

Later, under the Romans today Draßmarkt then lay in the province of Pannonia.

The first mention was made in 1289 in Güssing feud ( as a fortified place " Traizzendorf "). 1425, the village belonged to the castle country lake and formed a branch station for collecting the toll. Over the years, the village name changed to " Tracondorff " and 1614 to " Drassendorf ". In the same year the town of King Matthias Corvinus was awarded market rights and the lower courts. 1784 led to the place the name Drosenmarkt each time until it finally the name " Draßmarkt " was formed.

The place was like the rest of Burgenland to 1920 and 1921 to Hungary ( German West Hungary). After the end of World War II German West Hungary was awarded in the Treaties of St. Germain and Trianon in 1919 Austria after tough negotiations. The place belongs since 1921 to the newly founded State of Burgenland (see also history of Burgenland ). 1971 places Karl and Oberrabnitz were incorporated to Draßmarkt. In 1973 the on-lending of the market law to the community.
