Échenoz-la-Méline

Échenoz la Méline is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté. It belongs to the agglomeration Vesoul.

Geography

Échenoz la Méline situated at an altitude of 240 m above sea level, approximately 2.5 km southwest of the town of Vesoul (air line). The village is located in the central part of the department, in a valley on the southern edge of the basin of Vesoul, between the heights of the Bois des Breuleux in the West and in the East Mont Cita.

The area of ​​8.09 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the pelvic region of Vesoul. The central part of the area is taken from the open to the north basin of Échenoz. He has a width of about a kilometer and is the Ruisseau de la Fontaine au Diable (also Ruisseau de la Méline ) drained to Durgeon. To the north, the area extends beyond the alluvial plain of the Durgeon at Vesoul. This level is on average 215 m.

On three sides of the valley of Échenoz is surrounded by steep slopes that tops out at different locations of rock towers ( Roches of 12 Apôtres ), rocky outcrops and projections is identified. In this area there are several caves, particularly the Grotte de la Baume and the Grotte de Solborde. The steep slopes lead on to the high plateau of the hills between the valleys of the Saône and Ognon, which are partly forested, partly passed with arable and meadow land. West of Échenoz the border is about the height of the Bois des Breuleux (434 m ) east across the plateau of Mont Cita ( 386 m). With 447 meters, the highest elevation of Échenoz la Méline is achieved in the Bois de Maurogeux. In the far south of the Grand Bois de Vellefaux forms the boundary.

While on the lower slopes of calcareous Échenoz and emerge marly sandy sediments of the lower Jurassic period ( Lias ), there are the mountain ranges of resistant limestone of the Middle Jurassic time.

To Échenoz la Méline include the settlements Pont- lès- Vesoul (225 m) in the basin of the Durgeon on the outskirts of Vesoul and La Providence (320 m ) at the level of the east basin of Échenoz. Neighboring communities of Échenoz la Méline are Vesoul in the north, and La Navenne Demie in the east, Vallerois - Lorioz in the south and Andelarrot and Noidans -lès- Vesoul in the West.

History

The area of Échenoz can look back on a long history of settlement. The earliest evidence of human presence date back to the Paleolithic era. In the Grotte de la Baume and bone tools have been found from this period. Excavations on the plateau of Mont Cita (also Camp de César ) promoted remains of a Bronze Age settlement site revealed. Coins from the Roman period and finds from the Merovingian period indicate a continuous settlement of this place.

Is first mentioned Échenoz in 1174 under the name Escheno la Melinam. In the Middle Ages the village belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Until 1766 Échenoz belonged to the parish of Pont- lès- Vesoul, which forms a part of the community today. Here was the original church, which now no longer exists. Today Échenoz la Méline is a member of the 19 localities comprehensive community association Communauté de communes de l' agglomà de Vesoul.

Attractions

The church Saint -Martin was built in 1774 and has a statue of St. Anne from the 16th century. Also to equip the chapel of Notre -Dame de Solborde includes a statue from the 16th century. In the village square of Échenoz is a Lavoir that created 1833 as well, redesigned in 1906 and 1910 was reviewed.

Population

With 3097 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Échenoz la Méline one of the larger towns in the Haute- Saône. After the population had been in the second half of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century a long time at about 1000 to 1200 people, a first strong growth was recorded between 1920 and 1930. During this time, the population has almost doubled. A period of stagnation followed from 1962 to 1975 again a population growth. Then, a continuous slow decline in population was observed. Since 1990 the number of inhabitants is however again growing. The settlement area of Échenoz la Méline has grown together today almost completely with those of Vesoul, Noidans -lès- Vesoul and Navenne.

Economy and infrastructure

Échenoz la Méline was until the 20th century, a predominantly by agriculture ( farming, viticulture and animal husbandry ) embossed village. Unlike the other municipalities of the agglomeration Vesoul no major industrial and commercial zones have been created in Échenoz la Méline. Today, there are various operations of small and medium enterprises, mainly in the sectors of construction and heating, and also service providers and enterprises of retail trade. In recent decades the village has been transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who do their work in the other towns of the agglomeration Vesoul.

The village has good transport links. She is on the national road network with the main roads N19 ( Belfort - Vesoul - Langres ) - tethered and N57 (Besançon Vesoul ). Further road links exist with Noidans -lès- Vesoul and Velleguindry. Échenoz la Méline is connected by a bus to the town of Vesoul.
