Échevannes, Doubs

Échevannes is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Échevannes Located at 650 meters above sea level, 7 km east-southeast of Ornans and about 24 km southeast of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located in the Jura, in the west of the plateau of Valdahon: a scenic location high above the valley of the Loue.

The area of ​​5.23 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The main part of the area is occupied by the plateau of Valdahon, which is on average 650 m. It is mainly consisted of arable and meadow land, partly by forest and rises to the southeast gradually. The plateau has no above-ground rivers, because the rainwater seeps into the karst underground. With 747 m is achieved on the top of Signal de Cudrey the highest elevation of Échevannes. The western boundary runs mostly along the top of a rock band winning steeply to the valley of the Loue sloping hill. Even the striking edge of the plateau between the valleys of Loue and Ruisseau de Vaux belongs to Échevannes.

Neighboring communities of Échevannes are Lavans- Vuillafans in the North and East, South and Lods in Vuillafans in the West.

History

The name was formed by the agglutination of it (now French aux ) and chevannes which the Latin word Capana ( house, hut) is derived, and thus means at the houses. In the Middle Ages Échevannes belonged to the rule Durnes. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France. Today Échevannes is a member of the 24 localities comprehensive community association Communauté de communes du Pays d' Ornans.

Attractions

The chapel was built in the 15th century and shows a portal Flamboyant. In the village are farmhouses are preserved in the characteristic style of the Franche -Comté from the 18th and 19th centuries.

Population

With 82 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Échevannes is one of the smallest municipalities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1881 114 people were still counting ), was since the early 1970s, a total re- recorded a population growth.

Economy and infrastructure

Échevannes was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. Some employed persons are also commuters who engage in the surrounding larger towns of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a secondary road that leads from Valdahon after Vuillafans.
