Eddie Hinton

Edward Craig Hinton ( born June 15, 1944 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, † July 28, 1995 in Birmingham, Alabama) was an American songwriter and session musician.

Musician

He played from 1967 to 1971, the lead guitar for the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section. As a session musician he worked on recordings of several stars with, including, among others, Wilson Pickett, Arthur Conley, Aretha Franklin, Joe Tex, Solomon Burke, Percy Sledge, The Staple Singers, The Dells, Elvis Presley, The Box Tops, Boz Scaggs and Otis Redding.

Songwriter

Hinton was also also the author of many pieces of music. His most successful song is Breakfast in Bed, which was included, inter alia by Dusty Springfield and UB40 with Chrissie Hynde. For Percy Sledge he wrote, among other things, the Hits Cover Me and It's All Wrong But It 's Alright.

Career

As a singer, Hinton was compared with Soul and Rhythm & Blues greats. He was referred to in contemporary accounts as " the white Otis Redding ". He first played in small bands of the Southern States before the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section joined. For this secure career as a salaried musician, he struck out the offer of Duane Allman to be guitarist for the Allman Brothers Band.

In 1978, Eddie Hinton's first solo LP Very Extremly Dangerous. Despite good reviews it was unsuccessful, what not least the bankruptcy of Capricorn Records be laid record company was to blame.

In the following years it became quiet around Hinton. It was not until 1982 he re-entered a recording studio. The images, however initially remained unpublished. 1986 were completed and published as Letters From Mississippi to more pieces. This publication brought Hinton back into the music business and led among other things to a new record deal and later on a tour of Europe.

Two more albums, Cry and Moan or Very Blue Highway appeared in the early 1990s. Recordings on another album started at the beginning of 1995. Prior to publication, however, Eddie Hinton died of a heart attack. Hard Luck Guy was released in 1999 on the revived Capricorn label.

Zane on the series The songwriting sessions has appeared in recent years, which includes previously unreleased recordings Hinton from all phases of his work. So far published three issues.
