Emil Rausch

Emil Rausch ( born September 11, 1882 in Berlin, † December 14, 1954 ) was a German swimmer.

Emil Rausch was Germany's first Olympic gold medalist in swimming. In the Summer Olympics 1904 in St. Louis, he won gold medals in freestyle over 880 yards and the mile. He also won the bronze medal over 220 yards, also free style. In 1968 he was inducted into the Hall of Fame of the international swimming sport.

At the national level Emil Rausch was for his swimming club Poseidon Berlin seven consecutive times German champion over 1,500 m freestyle in the years 1901 until 1907. He also won at the German Championships in 1903 and 1905, the championship title over 100m freestyle.
