The former station building is one of the oldest of its kind in North Rhine -Westphalia and is a listed building since 1986. The former railway station and current breakpoint is via Route of Industrial Heritage.

History

With the construction of the railway Elberfeld- Dortmund by the Bergisch- Märkische Railway Company in 1848 a district of Ennepetal, a railway station was in Milspe, today set up, which was opened on 9 March 1849. The station building was built half-timbered and covered with wood. Until 1954 the station was called Milspe, although as early as 1949 Milspe and Voerde united in the city Ennepetal. 1954 finally it was renamed Ennepetal - Milspe. When the Gevelsberg station was canceled at the track in 1963, the neighboring town Gevelsberg did not have its own train stop more on the railroad Elberfeld- Dortmund. So the station Ennepetal - Milspe was again renamed in 1968 and bears, although completely lying within the city limits Ennepetal, since the name Ennepetal ( Gevelsberg ).

Founded in March 2010, Friends of Monument Station Ennepetal ( Gevelsberg ) has set itself the goal of achieving the promotion of reorganization measures and the conditions for sustainable use of the building.

Today's operation

The former train station now serves only as a stop for the public transport and is surrounded by the regional express lines RE 4 ( Wupper - Express), RE 7 (Rhein -Münster -Express ) and RE 13 (Maas - Wupper - Express) operated. The track in the direction Hagen was at ground level for decades, while the track in the direction Wuppertal can only be reached via an underpass. In 2010, the existing platform tunnel was extended in the direction of a deeper road and the whole tunnel rebuilt. Meanwhile, these systems consist of a ground-level access from the road, a road bridge to the P R facility and the only privately used station building, a fixed staircase to the P R facility and a fixed staircase to the platform and an operational since mid-2011 Elevator. The reconstructed central platform received two new platform edges with the standard height of 76 cm. This allows this station accessible use of the features of the euro rail, while the double -decker trains of DB Regio not allow barrier-free use because of their floor level. Due to different heights of the platform track has at both ends via a step which is secured by a barrier. The wooden platform roof was obtained and repainted.
