Ennis is a city in Ellis County in the U.S. state of Texas in the United States.

Geography

The city is located at the junction of Interstate 45 to Highway 34 and 287, as well as the highways 85, 879, 1183 and 1722 in the southeast of the county in the central northeast Texas and has a total area of 47.7 km ², of which 1.0 km ² water surface is.

History

The city was named after Cornelius Ennis, a manager and later director of the Houston and Texas Central Railroad and former mayor of Houston ( 1856-1857 ).
