Évillers

Évillers is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Évillers is located on 739 m above sea level, about 15 km northwest of the town of Pontarlier (air line). The village is located in the Jura, on the northeastern edge of the broad plateaux of Levier, which belongs to the second plateau of the Jura, at the southern foot of the ridge of the Bois du Désert.

The area of ​​13:02 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The main part of the area is occupied by the Plateau of Levier, which is an average of 730 m, a width of 3 km and gradually narrows towards the north- east. It is mostly covered by meadows, but also shows some forest areas. South of the village runs a dry valley, the topographical part of the catchment area of ​​the Loue. The plateau has no above-ground rivers, because the rainwater seeps into the karst underground. In the far south, the municipality area dates back to the forest area of ​​the Bois du Pessoul. The northern boundary runs along the ridge of the Bois du Désert, in the 933 meters, the highest elevation of Évillers is achieved. In geological- tectonic terms, this elongated ridge forms an anticline of the Jura, which is oriented towards the west southwest -northeast, according to the strike of the Central Mountains in this region.

Neighboring communities of Évillers are Amathay - Vésigneux, Longeville and Mouthier -Haute- Pierre in the North, Ouhans and Goux -les- Usiers in the east, Goux -les- Usiers and Sombacour in the south and in the west Septfontaines.

History

In the Middle Ages Évillers belonged to the rule Montmahoux, which was under the suzerainty of the lords of Chalon. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France. Attractions

The village church of Notre- Dame de l' Assomption originally goes back to the 15th and 16th centuries, but was built from 1745 to 1748 largely new. In the old town several farmhouses in the traditional style of the Haut-Doubs from the 18th and 19th centuries have been preserved.

Population

With 324 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Évillers one of the small communities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1891 422 persons were still counted ), only relatively small fluctuations were recorded since the early 1970s.

Economy and infrastructure

Évillers was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by agriculture, especially dairy farming and livestock village. In addition, there are today some of the local small business enterprises, including a sawmill and a company in the construction industry. Many workers are also commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a secondary road that leads from Levier after Ouhans. Further road links exist with Goux -les- Usiers, Sombacour and Longeville.
