Federico Peña

Federico Fabian Peña ( born March 15, 1947 in Laredo, Texas) is an American politician. Under President Bill Clinton from 1993 to 1997 he was Minister of Transport of the United States (United States Secretary of Transportation).

After studying at the University of Texas, he moved to Colorado, where he worked as a practicing attorney. In 1979 he was a member of the House of Representatives from Colorado and served there as chairman of the Democratic minority group (minority leader). As the first politician of Hispanic origin, he was in 1983 elected mayor of Denver in 1988 and confirmed in office.

He has worked for the construction of high-speed corridor and this also enforced for the benefit of the U.S. economy with French TGV technology. He is a straightforward and incorruptible expert. The success of the built in two years super Rail Road Northeast Corridor was one of the greatest managers successes in America these years in office.

After his time as Minister of Transport Peña was still responsible for a year in the Clinton Cabinet for the Department of Energy.

He now manages an investment company.
