Finnish Cup

The Finnish Football Cup (Finnish Suomen Cup ), the Association of Finnish Suomen Palloliitto (SPL ) oriented since 1955 cup competition of the men. With some exceptions (1977 and 2001, Tampere, Kuopio and Lahti 1978, 1993 Pori ) the finals were held in the capital Helsinki. From 1955 to 1999, the final at the Olympiastadion Helsinki was home. Since 2000, the trophy in the Finnair Stadium, today's Sonera Stadium, played with about 10,000 places in close proximity to the Olympic Stadium. The cup winner gets a place in the qualifying round of the UEFA Europa League.

The record title holder is Haka with twelve tracks. Current Cup winner (2013 ) is Rovaniemi PS.

Mode

In the cup competition all teams can participate that are registered in the Finnish league system, including senior and junior teams. Participation is not mandatory, which means that there are also professional clubs as a rule, not participating in the Cup. At the Suomen Cup 2009 took part 356 teams.

The competition is played in a calendar year in a simple knockout system, ie the winner of each game to the next round, the loser is eliminated. Teams from the three highest leagues off to a later time in the competition, a (2009 4 to 6 round).
