Fitou

Fitou is a southern French village with 1012 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the Aude department in the Languedoc- Roussillon region and also its name to the wine growing region of Fitou. The inhabitants call themselves les Fitounais.

Geography

The wine village located on the edge of a hilly landscape, the Corbières, in a shallow, V-shaped valley cut, which opens to the Etang de Leucate. Due to the steep valley accumulates in the stream flowing through it in heavy rain quickly a lot of water, so that the main road is quite often flooded.

The municipality is located in the Regional Natural Park Narbonnaise en Méditerranée.

Attractions

In the ruined castle of Fitou, at the upper end of the village, a museum is housed, are adjusted in the scenes from the medieval " chivalry ", including some torture scenes. In addition, it houses a collection of weapons and a collection of actual or alleged torture instruments.
