Gruissan

Gruissan is a municipality and port city with 4644 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the south of France in the department of Aude. It lies in the shadow of Narbonne, on the Mediterranean. It offers vacationers in the Languedoc- Roussillon region has a number of attractions.

The town consists mainly of four parts: Gruissan -Village, Gruissan port Gruissan -Plage and Gruissan -Les Ayguades.

Gruissan -Village is the historic city center, which houses a circular wind around the old castle. The castle has protected the port facility of Narbonne in the 14th century. From the harbor there is nothing left, and is also available from the castle, only the ruins of the Tour Barberousse.

Gruissan -Plage emerged in the 19th century as a summer resort for the population Narbonnaiser. Particularly noteworthy are the unique to this coastal region lake-dwellings ( pilotis ). These stilts are usually right near the beach on the still growing Schwemmsandflächen. They currently appear to be rather unkempt, but partly renovations have begun. The stilt houses, which today mainly serve as holiday homes, served as the backdrop for the film Betty Blue - 37.2 degrees in the morning ( director Jean -Jacques Beineix, starring Béatrice Dalle, 1986).

Gruissan port is the latest installment Gruissans. The modern marina was built in the 1970s. It has everything the tourist needs and still fits quite harmonious in the old place.

Gruissan -Les Ayguades located just outside the actual center on the Etang de Mateille, one of the lagoons around Gruissan. Here are next to a small shopping center numerous holiday villages - most with private pool. A number of French and Germans have made these holiday homes as their main residence, many objects but also rented out to vacationers.

Along with the neighboring towns of Narbonne -Plage and Saint- Pierre- la -Mer is a sincere Gruissan for leisure and holiday unit area along this section of the Mediterranean on the Golfe du Lion. The relevant for guests infrastructure is most clearly pronounced in Gruissan. In the spring of 2010, the city received another large shopping center on the outskirts next to the amusement park pirate ' Parc.

A touch of celebrity gets Gruissan fact that the actor Pierre Richard maintains his winery here. It is open to visitors all year open. The vineyards of the community are part of the Corbières appellation.
