Vinassan

Vinassan is a commune with 2522 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) in the Aude department in the Languedoc- Roussillon region. It belongs to the district of Narbonne and the Canton Coursan.

Geography

The municipality is located five kilometers northeast of Vinassan Narbonne and about twelve kilometers from the Mediterranean coast. The east of the Autoroute A9 preferred part of the municipality of Vinassan is part of the Regional Park Narbonnaise en Méditerranée. The commune includes the hamlets Marmorières and Saint- Félix.

The municipal area extends from the lying between the Aude and the large lagoon Etang de Bages - Sigean and Etang de l' Ayrolle level in the west to the heights of the Massif de la Clape (also called Montagne de la Clappe ) in the east. The isolated residential, maximum height reached 214 meters massif is only about 150 square kilometers and forms the north-eastern foothills of the Pyrenees.

The flat west of the municipal area is used for agriculture intensive. Here as well as in the hilly northeast of the community of viticulture is dominant, whose documents are part of the small wine region Clape, located immediately northeast of the Corbières wine region.

The municipality is bordered to the north by Vinassan Salles d'Aude, in the northeast of Fleury, in the east and west by Narbonne, in the south on Armissan and to the northwest by Coursan.

Demographics

The sea and location close to the short distance to the city of Narbonne favored a steady population growth. Through new construction areas north and west of the old village settlement area since the 1980s grew by almost double.

Attractions

  • The former icehouse, the still Cardinal Richelieu licensed for ten years, mostly expire today. The ice was then brought by horse and cart from the Montagne Noire about 50 kilometers away, and sometimes only lasted until early summer.
  • The Romanesque church of Saint -Martin in the 11th century, was reconstructed in 1896. It is classified as a historical monument ( Monument historique ).
