Force of Habit is the fifth studio album by the American thrash metal band Exodus. It was published in August 1992 by Capitol Records. It is the last album before the temporary breakup of the band. Bassist Rob McKillop had been replaced by Michael Butler.

Formation and style

At the time of Groove Metal Exodus went on Force of Habit significantly slower and mid-tempo oriented to work as before, the pure thrash metal was pushed back. For the first time took on the band in the UK, where Chris Tsangarides produced the plate. Only Pump It Up was subsequently provided by Marc Senesac in Studio The Record Plant in Sausalito with additional recording tracks and remixes. With Bitch by the Rolling Stones - with horn arrangements - and Pump It Up by Elvis Costello two cover versions were included. The song titles are mostly English proverbs. Architect of Pain refers to the Marquis de Sade, One Foot in the Grave criticized drug abuse and Me, Myself and I shall be satirically deals with the Me Generation.

Force of Habit is the only album without the famous Exodus logo. The cover shows an illustration by Ralph Steadman. The album is dedicated to the Bill Graham died in 1991.

Reception

Roch Parisien from Allmusic awarded three stars out of five. The partial shift away from thrash leave room for some tunes. Parisien highlighted the unusual cover versions produced as well as some "interesting text ". Force of Habit could not place in the charts themselves.
