Frank Bell (governor)

Jardine Francis "Frank" Bell ( born January 28, 1840 in Toronto, Ontario, † February 13, 1927 in Oakland, California ) was an American politician and 1890-1891 Governor of the State of Nevada.

Early years

Francis Bell was a distant cousin of Alexander Graham Bell, who is regarded as the co-inventor of the telephone. He attended the public schools of his Canadian home. In 1858 he came to Nevada and led the nationwide cabling for the new telegraph technology until 1860. Afterwards he was an employee of a telegraph company and belonged to the circle of people, 1864, the Constitutional Constitution of Nevada to Washington, DC durchtelegrafierte. He was the first person having performed the phone in Nevada.

Political career

Bell was a member of the Republican Party. Between 1883 and 1887 he worked as the head of the state prison of Nevada. Since 1889 he was vice- governor of his state. As at September 21, 1890 Governor Charles Clark Stevenson died, Bell had to quit as his deputy, the opened term. This included, in this case the period to 5 January 1891. During this time he continued essentially the policy of his predecessor continued. He was the first non- American-born governor of Nevada.

After his governorship, he was 1893-1895 again head of the state prison. From 1905 to 1909, Justice of the Peace Bell in Reno. He died in 1927., With his wife Mary Poore he had two children.
