Freudenberg is a city in North Rhine -Westphalia, Germany, and belongs to the district of Siegen- Wittgenstein.

The city is located on the German - Dutch holiday road Orange Route.

Geography

Geographical Location

Freudenberg is located in the historic winner country in hilly landscape of low mountains 243-505 m above sea level. The landscape belongs mostly to Freudenberger Bergland, which in turn is part of the natural ecosystem winner country. The southern city area belongs to the range of hills Giebelwald, which also houses the 527 -meter-high mountain is gable. Although its tip lies on low Fischbacher territory, makes its slope at the border to Rhineland -Palatinate, the highest point in the city of Freudenberg. History

The oldest parts are probably the documentary mentioned in the 11th century Plittershagen and Oberholzklau ( 1079 ). Freudenberg is assigned as the official and court seat since the early 15th century. The town and the castle Freudenberg were first documented in 1389.

The castle was founded on the Weibetal with a settlement of the Counts of Nassau as a western cornerstone of their territory. Count John IV of Nassau, Vianden and Diez announced on November 7, 1456 the citizens of Freudenberg their liberties. This freedom letter of 1456 is now regarded as an indication of the town charter. Documents give evidence that Freudenberg was established very early as " spots". The historic town center still bears the name of " age spots ".

In 1540 the castle and the settlement by a fire has been greatly affected. On the orders of William the rich built about the middle of the 16th century, a new urban development. The spots got a base enclosure with four gates. In the northwest, the High Hainer Gate, in the north- east the Weihertor the Braastor and southwest the school gate was built in the southeast. A second fire caused by a lightning strike, on August 9, 1666 the city was devastated again. Only one house ( Kölner Str 3) remained intact and since then is considered to be the oldest house in Freudenberg. Prince John Maurice of Nassau- Siegen built the spots back on the largely unaltered floor plans from 1540. The castle was not rebuilt, so that by it only ruins can be seen today.

On March 18, 1588 the raid of over 100 armed Sauer countries fell on two Freudenberger restaurants. Already in 1597 the farm was mentioned Herlingen. He was up to in 1780.

For the September 8, 1796 is reported in Freudenberg by a spectacular robbery of French war chest.

Incorporations

Eckhard Günther ( CDU) is the incumbent mayor.

In the South Westphalian Open Air Stage Freudenberg two new productions for children and adults are listed in a forest and rocky backdrop annually. The grandstand is covered. Every year, about 50,000 visitors the outdoor stage.

Structures

Economy and infrastructure

The city is crossed from north to south-east of the A45. Until the 1980s there was also a railway connection via the Bigge Valley Railway to Olpe in the north and on the Asdorftalbahn by Betz village in the south. Today, much of the former route have been converted into cycle paths or filled with soil.

In Freudenberg there is a bus station called Mo'rer place from here buses to wins and Betzdorf.Busse also operate in the neighboring communities of Freudenberg. The lines are operated by the transport companies Westfalen Süd ( VWS).
