Fritz Korbach

Fritz Korbach ( born July 18, 1945 in Diez, † August 14, 2011 in Leeuwarden, The Netherlands ) was a German football coach. He became famous mainly in the Netherlands, where he was responsible for eleven different teams.

Playing career

As a player Korbach was active for the Dutch Amateur Sports Teams ZSC Patria Zeist and SV Baarn Baarn from.

Coaching career

1970 Korbach was 25 years assistant to Bert Jacobs at the newly founded club FC Utrecht. Previously, he had been since 1968 assistant coach with the predecessor association UPS Elinkwijk. His first head coaching job was the football coach at FC Wageningen, which he oversaw 1973-1977. Finally, he moved 1977/78 to PEC Zwolle. In the first year at Zwolle Korbach rose with the team on in the Eredivisie. In the first year in the top division of the Netherlands, the team reached the eighth place. This is the best to date placement in the history of the club. A total of 32 points (2 points for a win ) are accumulated in this season - only 2002/ 03 this score was again reached, but not exceeded (despite the 3-point rule).

Korbach held the club regularly from the relegation places far away, before he was hired for the season 1982/83 FC Volendam. With Volendam he should make the ascent from the Eerste Divisie. With second place in the league this goal was achieved. Nevertheless, the paths between club and manager parted again. The Dutch club FC Twente tradition attracted Korbach then in the summer of 1983 to Enschede. Twente was relegated last year and wanted its chances of promotion, the Korbach made ​​it possible. He immediately led the team in the following year, in eighth place. After a less successful year 1985/86 the employment relationship has been released. The SC Cambuur - Leeuwarden finally secured Korbach services as head coach. After 1986/87, he saved the team ahead of the relegation from the second division, he led in the following year in second place in the Eerste Divisie.

Korbach stayed another year and signed for 1988/89 at Go Ahead Eagles Deventer. As with many clubs before, he had again the task of leading the club to the excellence. After less than two years, without success, he was replaced in February by interim coach Henk ten Cate. However, with the SC Heerenveen quickly found himself a new task for the German football coach. Although only the 16th place was achieved in the second Dutch league, the club was promoted to the Eredivisie. However, the immediate re descent took place. 1991/92 the team was indeed third in the First Division, which they missed, however, the rise in short supply. Korbach was therefore replaced in October 1992 by Foppe de Haan. After exactly ten years he has been the coach again in November to FC Volendam, remained in spite of a good sixth place in the Eredivisie but only a year after he started badly in the following season.

In October 1993 Korbach signed a second time at SC Cambuur - Leeuwarden and remained for two years at the North Dutch club. After relegation in 1994, they did not make it again in 1995 in the first division. Between November 1995 and December 1998, he oversaw the VBV De Graafschap Doetinchem in the Eredivisie. With seventh place in 1997 giving the best club placement was earned in the first division. In 1999 Korbach as coach at Heracles Almelo. After two years there, he allowed himself a break from 2001 to 2003 before Sparta Rotterdam secured the services of the trainer. There Korbach should avoid relegation from the Eredivisie. The coach remained only two days. Reason for this was that his doctor advised him to reduce stress and Korbach the job announced again after two training sessions.

For the season 2003/ 04 he led the fate of the Dutch amateur club raw data Raalte. In summer 2005, he ventured for the first time step, to train a team outside of the Netherlands. Private

In the ardent smoker of cigarillos in January 2011 laryngeal cancer was diagnosed. Treatments by surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy were unsuccessful. After him yet presented his doctors early August 2011, a few months life expectancy in view, he died on August 14, 2011, of a heart attack.
