Galaxie 500

Galaxie 500 was an American rock band of the post-punk era that existed from 1987 to 1991.

The band was grown in 1987 by three in New York City and founded fellow Harvard students, the singer and guitarist Dean Wareham, bassist Naomi Yang and Damon Krukowski drummer. They first appeared at concerts in Boston and New York and then released after a few singles in 1988 their first album, Today.

Then, the band signed with Rough Trade USA and brought there in 1989, the album On Fire out and 1990 This Is Our Music. With the collapse of Rough Trade, the band broke up. Wareham then formed his band Luna, while Yang and Krukowski published under the name Damon and Naomi plates.

Influence

The music of Galaxie 500 influenced many indie artists, such as the slow -core band Low. They have been covered by many artists, or one referring in interviews or texts on them. In the song " Stratford-on -Guy " Liz Phair sings:

The Brian Jonestown Massacre named their album " And This Is Our Music" (2003) and related it to the Galaxie 500 album " This Is Our Music". Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth called the band's debut album, Today, as " the guitar plate from 1988 ". The song Naomi by Neutral Milk Hotel is supposedly on the Galaxie 500 bassist Naomi Yang.
