Georgia Coleman

Georgia Coleman ( born January 23, 1912 in St. Maries, Idaho, † September 14, 1940 in Los Angeles ) was an American Water Diving. She participated in two Olympic Games, winning four medals, including one gold.

Career

At the age of 16 years, Georgia Coleman participated in the Summer Olympic Games in 1928 partly in Amsterdam, after only half a year before starting the water Jumping. She launched both in competition from the tower and board. From board she reached behind her countrywomen Helen Meany and Dorothy Poynton the bronze medal, the tower had only Coleman to concede defeat Elizabeth Becker and won silver. Four years later, Georgia Coleman joined the Summer Olympics in 1932 in Los Angeles again at the board and tower. When diving they could again win the silver medal, this time behind Dorothy Poynton. In the competition from the board was Coleman Olympic champion in front of their two rural women Katherine Rawls and Jane Fauntz.

Georgia Coleman started for the Los Angeles Athletic Club and won eleven titles of the Amateur Athletic Union. She was the first woman who has jumped a half times the somersault. After Coleman was diagnosed with polio in 1937, she learned while swimming again, but died at the age of 28 years on 14 September 1940 in Los Angeles.
