Gerco Schröder

Gerco Bernardus Schroeder ( born July 28, 1978 in Tubbergen ) is a Dutch show jumping and two-time silver medalist at the Olympic Summer Games in 2012.

Private

Schröder was born as the youngest of three brothers, the son of a farmer. His older brothers Ben Schröder and Wim Schröder are also jumpers.

Career

Gerco Schröder initially wanted to succeed his father and become a farmer. With the riding he began at the age of seven years. At the request of his brother Wim, he took a pony and erritt with this first success in equestrian sports. As a result, even Gerco Schröder concerted on his athletes career. Early in his career, he worked as a heater in the training and sales barn, the brother Ben Schroeder built from the farm of his father.

His first major international success came Schröder when he was with Calypso 1996 European Championship for Young Riders in the individual standings. Two years later he succeeded with Geneve again, he also won here with the team the gold medal. During this time Gerco Schröder also changed the employer: On the recommendation of his brother Wim, he moved to the stable Euro Commerce, where he has since worked as a heater.

In the Summer Olympics 2004, he rode in a team with Wim Schröder, Leopold van Asten and Gert -Jan Bruggink in fourth place. Together with Jeroen Dubbeldam, Piet Raijmakers and Albert Zoer he won at the 2006 World Equestrian Games in Aachen team gold. A year later he won the Dutch team in the saddle of Berlin and gold at the European Championships in Mannheim.

At the Olympic Games in London in 2012 he won the silver medal in the saddle of London in both the individual as well as in the team competition.

After the Olympics, Schröder were initially several of his horses, as well as London withdrawn. This was due to financial problems of Euro Commerce, which were already known from the Olympic Games. After the games, then the horses were seized by the Dutch Rabobank, as there was € commerce in bankruptcy. Based on an agreement between the bank and corporate lawyer Schröder could ride two horses again at the Global Champions Tour tournament in Vienna, where he erritt a cash prize of 45,000 € with a third place in the main test with London.

As the horses are auctioned by Euro Commerce as a result of the bankruptcy in April 2014, there were no sports for Gerco Schröder Zukunkunft more at Euro Commerce. As a result, he leaves the company and is now focusing again on the run along with his brothers training and sales barn.
