German Handball Association

The German Handball Federation (DHB ) is an association of German handball regional and national associations. With currently about 830,000 members in 4,500 clubs with approximately 30,000 men, the Handball Federation is the world 's largest handball federation. It was founded on October 1, 1949 in Mülheim an der Ruhr. The DHB is a registered non-profit association based in Dortmund. Its full members are three regional associations and 22 national associations.

The DHB has the Handball Bundesliga (HBL ) supervision of the national handball leagues and the participants ( players, officials, referees, etc.). Particular space in the activities takes up the establishment and support of various national teams of all ages. The DHB also concepts and interpretations are regulated (eg rules or guidelines of the International Handball Federation (IHF ) ) compulsory for all German forces. The 1991 launched marketing company Handball Marketing Company ( HMG), taking care of a professional presentation of the brand handball and is the exclusive holder of the marketing rights of all DHB - products, such as the national teams, referees of the 1st and 2nd Bundesliga, DHB own events, etc.

History

On October 1, 1949 met at the city hall in Mülheim an der Ruhr 46 delegates and founded the DHB. Willi Tom Thumb was elected the first president. Tom Thumb had created as Chairman of the German Working Committee for handball the foundations of the umbrella organization. The East German handball federation was dissolved on 30 June 2011. The West German Handball Federation was dissolved on 31 December 2011.

German Championship

The German championship in both the men's and the women's handball is the most important national title. The German Handball master of men is played since 1949. First title holder was the Sports Association Hamburg Police, Record Master is the THW Kiel. For women, the German champion is played since 1951. First titleholder was KWU Weimar, record champion is the handball club Leipzig.

DHB Cup

Occur all Bundesliga preseason and other clubs who qualify through regional cup competitions, the knockout system against each other. For men, three discharged two main rounds among women. The crews of the 1st Bundesliga come and join the men in the third, with the women in the second round. Thereafter, the further playout eighth and quarter - finals and a final weekend took place in the Final Four mode.

The DHB Cup Men played out since 1975. First title holder was the TSV Green-White Dankersen, record title holder is the THW Kiel.

The DHB Women's Cup is played since 1975. First title holder was the TSV GutsMuths Berlin, record title holder is the TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen.
