Germany in the Eurovision Song Contest 1978

The German contribution in a new session in 1978 was determined.

After the experience of the previous years in charge of the preparations for this year Südwestfunk tried a new mode. For the selection of two partners were acquired with GEMA and the Federation of the Phonographic Industry. A nine-member jury of three GEMA employees ( no composer who participated ), three disc jockeys and three music journalists, selected the contributions for the final. The composers were invited to submit their contributions.

There were filed only 53 posts since few days between the request by the Munich GEMA office, with the shipment of the conditions of participation, and the deadline were.

It initially selected ten titles, which are subsequently amplified by five more for the final.

In the final, the title beginning in March 1978 were presented on radio and evaluated a listener survey by the polling firm Bonner INFAS. This survey should contribute one third of the standings.

Placements of the Listener Survey

A new eight-member jury of four GEMA employees and four music journalists should contribute with their vote two-thirds to the result. This jury suggested, however, to send any contributions to Paris, when they saw any of the titles for the competition to be suitable.

The person responsible for the competition at SWF did not share this opinion and therefore took the listener survey as the sole criterion for selection.

Ireen Sheer introduced just before the groups Sunrise and Peter, Sue & Marc. Thus her title fire was the audience as a contribution on 15 April 1978 in the show Let's go on los presented with Joachim Fuchsberger.

Ireen Sheer finished the Euro Vision Song Contest in Paris with 84 points 6th place.
