Gigi is an American musical film directed by Vincente Minnelli from 1958 original was the first time in 1945 published novella Gigi by Sidonie -Gabrielle Colette. ; the substance came in 1951 as a play on Broadway. Frederick Loewe and Alan Jay Lerner developed an adaptation for the stage, which had 1973 premiere on Broadway.

Action

The action takes place in Paris in 1900: Honoré Lachaille tells the audience the story of " little girls ". His nephew Gaston is a frequent guest at Inez and their granddaughter, Gigi. Gaston sees Gigi, which is brought up by Inez and her sister Alicia to a good society lady, a little, not serious child. After he has finished his last affair due to lack of loyalty, he invites Gigi and Inez to take a holiday and for which he takes a liking to Gigi. He acts with Inez from a treaty that will make Gigi to his courtesan, but without their knowledge. Gigi is offended, but because he recognizes her love for her and asks her " all due respect " for her hand.

Awards

The German premiere took place on December 18, 1958 held the first broadcast on German television on 22 June 1972 in ARD.

The sung by Maurice Chevalier opening song " Thank Heaven for Little Girls" has been used world-famous and as a gag in the movie Wag the Dog. Leslie Caron took the vocal numbers by Gigi indeed on, but her voice was dubbed later by Betty Tondouble wall.
