History

The Gorkier railway was built in 1936 from parts of the Moscow - Kursk and the Northern Railways, were divided differently than their routes through the creation of new railway divisions. 1961, the routes of the Kazan Railway were taken, which had also become the successor of the 1936 to 1918 private Moscow - Kazan Railway ( 1862-1891 Moscow - Ryazan Railway ).

After re- naming of the city of Nizhny Novgorod in 1990, which was called since 1932 Gorki, kept all railway facilities at the previous name, the main train station of the city, which officially still called Gorky Moscow Railway Station and the Railway Board.

The oldest track today Gorkier Railway is the 1862 ( to Petuschki in 1861 ) was put into operation between Moscow and Nizhny Novgorod (Moscow - Nizhny Novgorod railway), from 1893 to the Moscow - Kursk, Nizhny Novgorod and Murom Railway duly and 1925 in Moscow - Kursk Railway renamed.

Electrification began in Gorkier Railroad in 1958 with the short section (25 km ) of the Trans-Siberian Railway ( Trans-Siberian ) from the direction of the Sverdlovsk railway to Balesino 1958 3000 V DC. Between 1960 and 1964, the entire remaining portion of the Trans-Siberian Railway in the Gorkier (375 km) and the subsequent route were Vladimir Gorki Kotelnich (618 km) with 25 kV 50 Hz AC electrified.

1971/72 was the suburban area of Kazan ( Kazan - Swijaschsk Arsk, including urban and northern bypass route Kazan, along 134 km) turn electrified with direct current. As then (1368 miles) was 1980-1987, the electrification of the entire route Moscow -Kazan - Sverdlovsk in the field of railway Gorkier again with alternating current, the DC section to Kazan in 1985 with changed.

Stretch

The main routes of the railway Gorkier are:

  • Trans-Siberian Railway ( section of Swetscha, kilometer 817 ( exclusive ) to Pibanschur east Balesino, km 1192 ( inclusive); double track; further DC 3000 V, this short section to the Directorate limit; electrified with AC 25 kV 50 Hz to Balesino, km 1217 locomotives operated by the neighboring Sverdlovsk railway)
  • Railway line Moscow - Kotelnich (from Petuschki, kilometer 126 ( inclusive); double track; electrified by Vladimir, 191 km with DC 3000 V, go to AC 25 kV 50 Hz, the short DC section Petuschki - Vladimir is operated by locomotives of the neighboring Moscow railway; on this route have been running since 2000, almost all passenger trains of the Trans-Siberian Railway, until they meet in Kotelnich on their regular route )
  • Railway line Moscow -Kazan - Yekaterinburg (from Tscherusti, kilometer 156 ( exclusive ) to Druschinino, km 1574 ( exclusive ); double track, electrified by Wekowka, km 206 DC 3000 V, go to AC 25 kV 50 Hz, the short DC section Tscherusti - Wekowka is served by the neighboring Moscow railway locomotives )

The Gorkier Railway also operates the 30 km long narrow gauge railway ( track width 750 mm) Tumskaja - Golowanowa dacha, the only remaining narrow gauge line of the Russian state railway and last remnants of the once extensive narrow gauge network between Vladimir and Ryazan, which was not shut down or umgespurt on broad gauge. In April 2008, the company was, however, adjusted for repair; whether a re-opening takes place, is questionable.
