Gracias a Dios Department

Gracias a Dios is one of the 18 departments in Honduras in Central America. Its name comes from Spanish and means " Thank God ".

The capital of the department since 1975 Puerto Lempira - previously had Brus Laguna this function.

Gracias a Dios is located in the extreme east of Honduras on the Caribbean coast and is part of the Miskito Coast. The area is populated only very sparse and has no trunk roads to the rest of the country. In the south of Gracias a Dios has an external border with Nicaragua.
