Ocotepeque Department

Ocotepeque is one of the 18 departments in Honduras in Central America.

Capital of the department is the city of Nueva Ocotepeque, which was destroyed by a flood in 1934 and had to be rebuilt afterwards. Ocotepeque located in the extreme western Honduras and has an external border with El Salvador and Guatemala. In Ocotepeque There are several thermal sources that are also used for tourism.

The department was founded in 1906 by a split from the department of Copán.
