Greg (comics)

Michel Régnier aka Greg ( born May 5, 1931 in Ixelles / Elsene, Belgium, † 29 October 1999), who also used pseudonyms such as Chimel, Miky, Louis Albert, Michel Denys, Mike, Greg, was a Belgian comic book artist, author - and editor who for five decades had a significant influence on the development of the Franco-Belgian comics. More than 250 albums of different genres such as humor, adventure, espionage, westerns and science fiction bear his signature as a writer or artist. Known as draftsman, he was, among other things by Albert gentian, his fame as a writer is based on series like Andy Morgan, Bruno Brazil and Comanche.

Career

Régnier grew up in Herstal. Early age of 16 he published in 1947 in the Belgian magazine Vers l' Avenir first comic drawn by him: Nestor et Boniface. At first he preferred hero comics. 1953 and 1956 he recorded under the pseudonym Michel Denys for the magazine Heroic album the adventure series Le Chat with bonds to Batman. In parallel, he began working as a writer for other artists. He wrote a number of short-lived series such as Bison et Quistiti ( illustrator René forage ), Tiger Joe ( illustrator Gérald Forton ) and Alain et Christine (illustrated by Martial ) and a number of other series for the magazine Tintin. In 1963, he invented for the magazine Pilote his most famous series Achille Talon ( German Albert gentian ). In the same year he published in Vaillant another drawn by himself series Les Os.

Between 1960 and 1966, Régnier wrote scenarios for drawn by André Franquin series Spirou and Fantasio: An ice-cooled guest thaws (1960), Caught in the valley of the Buddhas (1960), The Plan of Zyklotrop (1961 ), Under the Spell of Z (1962 ), In the Realm of the red Elephants (1964 ) and QRN calls Bretzelburg (1966 ), one of the most popular albums of the series. Since 1957 he was also the author of many gags for André Franquin and Dino Modeste et Pompon Attanasios ( German Mausi and Paul ).

Several stories of Tibet Series Chick Bill, Club des Peur de Rien and Mouminet penned Regnier. At the request Hergé also he wrote a scenario for Tintin, which was never realized as an album.

From 1965 to 1974, Régnier, who is now signed his works with Greg, editor in chief of the magazine Tintin. In this capacity, he tested in collaboration with young, still unknown subscribers a series of new series by the publication of short stories, which should develop as classics of the Franco- Belgian comics later: In 1966, he wrote Andy Morgan of Hermann, from 1967 Luc Orient for Paape, 1968 Bruno Brazil for Vance and Comanche from 1969, also for Hermann. In 1969, he also appeared with the filmic adaptation of the Tintin album Tintin and the Temple of the Sun, 1972, he wrote the screenplay for the animated film Tintin and the Haifischsee.

Mid -1970s, Greg went to the publisher Dargaud and was also the Achille Talon Magazine out, it appeared 6 numbers by the year 1976. Besides he still created comic book series as well as screenplays for film and television productions.

In 1987 he wrote the first adventure of the new Marsupilami series for Franquin and Batem. In the following years he continued with new signatories his old hit series Comanche ( with Michel Rouge) and Andy Morgan ( with Dany and Aidan's ) continued. Still new series like Colby for Michel Blanc -Dumont ( 1991) and Tobo At the same time came for Pierre -Yves Gabrion (1993).

He died 68 years old in an aneurysm.
