Greg Stefan

Gregory Steven Stefan ( born February 11, 1961 in Brantford, Ontario ) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender and is currently an assistant coach with the Carolina Hurricanes in the National Hockey League. As a player, he was active 1981-1990 for the Detroit Red Wings.

Career

Greg Stefan began his career in 1978 in the Canadian Junior Football League OHL Oshawa Generals at the. He was for two years only number two in goal for the Generals, but eventually was able to recommend in his third season with solid 23 wins in 46 games for the NHL. In the NHL Entry Draft 1981, the Detroit Red Wings selected him in the seventh round of at position 128 and played the 1981/82 season mainly in the Adirondack Red Wings, the Detroit farm team in the AHL. But he also came in the same season twice for Detroit used.

In the season 1982/83 Stefan was an integral NHL squad of Red Wings and shared with Corrado Micalef and Gilles Gilbert the stakes in the gate, before he out goalkeeper was in the year and with the team for the first time since 1978, again in the playoffs could move. On November 27, 1989, Greg Stefan suffered a torn ligament in his right knee during a game against the Oilers. He stayed with the team until 1998, when they had already renamed the Plymouth Whalers and then devoted himself to the sport.

2003, he returned to the Plymouth Whalers Stefan back, where he was assistant coach and Director of Player Development Department. Two years later he joined the Carolina Hurricanes of the NHL as goalkeeping coach and scout and was able to celebrate the Stanley Cup final triumph of the season 2005/ 06.
