The Gregory Highway is a highway in Queensland, Australia. It has a length of 912 km and runs in a northwest-southeast direction substantially parallel to the east coast of Australia.

Was named the Gregory Highway from Augustus Gregory, an explorer who undertook the mid-19th century several expeditions in Australia. The course of the highway follows, more or less the route that Gregory took on his journey in the years 1855-1856.

Course

Springsure - Clermont

The Gregory Highway begins in Springsure in central Queensland, where it branches off from the Dawson Highway. The Gregory Highway first 65 kilometers from Springsure of runs to the north where it crosses the Capricorn Highway, Emerald (A4), which leads from Rockhampton to Barcaldine. North of Emerald runs the Gregory Highway about 105 km in a north- westerly direction to Clermont. A few kilometers north of the city branches of the Peak Downs Highway ( S70) to Mackay to the east.

Clermont - Charters Towers

North of Clermont bears the street name Gregory Developmental Road. and is designated as State Road 63. This continues in a northwesterly direction through wide, dominated by cattle ranches land, until after about 370 km Charters Towers reached. There it crosses the Flinders Highway ( A6), which leads from Townsville to Cloncurry.

Charters Towers - Georgetown

Behind the Gregory Developmental Road Charters Towers then continues in a northwesterly direction. After about 250 km Lynd Junction ( Oasis Roadhouse ) is reached where the Kennedy Developmental Road ( S62) crosses in a north-south direction. Then the Gregory Developmental Road runs still about 180 km to Georgetown. There it ends at the meeting with the Gulf Developmental Road, part of the National Highway 1

The highest point in the course of the highway is 328 m and the lowest at 175 m.
