The climb to the first division in 2007 meant for Gençlerbirliği OFTAŞ that the club had to be managed separately and independently of Gençlerbirliği Ankara. Since Erstligaaufstieg therefore cooperation with Gençlerbirliği Ankara took place only in relation to the youth training. After a year in the first Turkish league 's Board of Gençlerbirliği OFTAŞ to change the name of Gençlerbirliği OFTAŞ in Hacettepespor decided therefore to underline the recent connections as a former farm team of Gençlerbirliği Ankara from the association name. In this sense, the club colors were changed to purple and white. The choice of name is established as a tribute to Ankara's former top club Hacettepe Gençlik Kulübü.
