Hakone, Kanagawa

Hakone (Japanese箱根 町, machi ) is a town on the main Japanese island of Honshu in Kanagawa Prefecture, in the district of Hakone. It is located about 100 km outside of Tokyo.

Geography

Hakone is located in the mountainous foothills of Mount Fuji, in the midst of the Fuji- Hakone -Izu National Park. Near the Lake Ashi is surrounded by mountains and volcanoes.

The old border station on the Hakone historical Tōkai Street marks the transition from the region of Kansai (literally "west of the border station ) " to the region Kanto (literally "east of the border station ").

Tourism

After a considerable amount Hakone Japanese and international guests come to relax, to spa treatments or tours of the national park and the mountains. The population of Tokyo Hakone estimates as Tagesausflugsort to get away from the hustle and bustle of the big city.

As of the close neighbor Odawara Hakone has many onsen ( hot springs ) and related recreational facilities.

The Fuji -Hakone -Izu National Park to the Lake Ashi lying around, is a popular tourist destination. In cloudless weather and clear visibility to Mount Fuji, one of Japan's landmark ranges.

A point of interest is also the volcanically active Owakudani (大 涌 谷, great boiling valley). In the mountains in Hakone hot springs numerous springs sulfur water; its odor is present throughout the environment. The fact boiled eggs ( onsen tamago ) should bring long life.

The Hakone Shrine on the lakeshore with its red torii is another landmark of Hakone.

On Lake Ashi run " pirate ships" as scheduled boats for tourists. In fine weather in autumn, the lake is famous for its beautiful landscape with autumn forest in the background. In April, the cherry blossoms ( sakura) and miscanthus ( Susuki ) offer a picturesque sight.

Special Events

The annual Hakone Ekiden - (a kind of long-distance relay race ) at New Year, running from Tokyo to Hakone and back. It lasts two days and is carried out partly in commemoration of the historic Tōkaidō.

Partnerships

The Hakone Tozan Railway is a mountain railway in the style of the Rhaetian Railway in Switzerland. The two tracks entertained since 1979, a friendship agreement.
